This event was special because my friend, Msgr. Mike Cherup was celebrating the 20th youth conference he has planned and led for the young people of his diocese. The theme “reflect and Celebrate” was a most appropriate one.

350 teens came with energy (West Central!!!!) to the Sandestin Hilton for a weekend where they were treated to the talents and reflections of Vince Nims, Irene Friend, Ton Franzak, Dobie Moser, Anna Scally, and David Kauffman. That’s a pretty impressive line up anywhere.

I think all of us came because of our respect for Father Mike. He has always sought the best for teens and has worked to make the conference something people would want to be involved in and bring others to attend. Mike has always been racious and professional to us. Why he even gave me a pizza box at the end of the conference (a private joke that isn’t over by a long shot!).

The energy of the young people was great…seeing all these musicians and speakers inspired me. It reminded me how lucky I am and makes me proud to be invited to serve teens with them.
